Choosing The Right Walkers

If you need assistance with your mobility, then choosing the correct walker is essential. Different styles of walkers have varying capabilities: some will be suitable for your type of need, while others may fall short.

Get Around Mobility offers three types of walkers, each of which assists mobility in a specific way.

iWalk - A Crutch Alternative

The iWalk is a basic product that helps people with ankle injuries achieve a higher level of mobility. It’s particularly useful for those who have sprained their Achilles tendon, broken their foot, or twisted their ankle and need to give the joint time to recover.

What’s interesting about the iWalk is that it provides lots of support while negating the need for crutches. Unlike crutches that you hold in your hands to take the pressure off of your ankle, the iWalk is a device that you wear on your leg. To slip it on, you place your knee on the support plate and then strap the device to your thigh. The rod below supports your leg, with your ankle bent behind your body. With the iWalk, you can continue about your day as usual because the device allows you to restore your natural walking motion, with all the force from the ground transmitted through your knee.

The Drive 790 Knee Walker - A Different Kind Of Crutch Alternative

The iWalk requires you to have a certain level of balance and confidence to operate. You have to get used to walking on your knee, which can be challenging for some users. The Drive 790 is another kind of crutch replacement device that looks a little bit like a tricycle but with two wheels front and back which some users may find more comfortable to operate. Where you’d find a seat on a standard trike, on the Drive 790, you’ll find a knee support cushion. As before, you place your knee on the support with your injured ankle bent out behind and then put your hands on the handlebars and use your other leg to propel you forward. The Drive 790, therefore, is similar in concept to a scooter, but with the additional stability afforded by rolling on four wheels instead of just two.

This steerable knee walker is for people who are recovering from ankle sprains and injury as well as foot surgery or ulcers on the foot. The device eliminates any need for loading the affected ankle/foot, allowing it to recover and heal.

The Drive Rollator - A Quality Walker

The Drive Rollator is different from the other two products we’ve discussed so far. Instead of providing support for one ankle, it enables a person with limited overall mobility to move about more easily by helping them support their body weight. The walker is made of durable metal, has four wheels and hand-operated brakes to allow the user to control the movement and speed of the walker in front of them. The device also comes with a padded seat that makes sitting down both comfortable and safe. The Drive Rollator is lightweight at just 13 pounds and can fold away easily, making it highly portable, just like the other devices we’ve discussed.
